THE BIG PROBLEM
There are approximately 280 million illiterate adults in India, which accounts for 37% of the world’s total illiterate population. So it’s safe to say illiteracy is a huge social problem being faced by India right now, which root cause goes back to a society that is ruled by the privileged.
Millions of children face the prospect of growing up without having the chance to learn to read and write. Illiteracy is a core issue that feeds other social problems such as unemployment, poverty and child labour. Like a domino affect this creates further disparities between the privileged and not so privileged.
At Slumdog Travels we believe this issue should be improved and challenged head on. We are driven to make a positive change in the human and environmental well-being of India on a large scale and that passion and belief is what drives us to provide the best possible service you could experience.
Slumdog travels is a more than just a tour company that offers first class tours to India, we are a social enterprise with a focus on improving the social issue of illiteracy in India and we believe due to our experience, passion and skills this is best tackled through the power of tourism.
